Newcomer Sarah Amengual Tapped to Play Maria in "West Side Story"

Sarah Amengual will take over the role of Maria in West Side Story beginning September 21 at the Palace Theatre. Josefina Scaglione, who received a 2009 Tony nomination for her performance, will play her final show on September 19.

"WEST SIDE STORY" Plays Bryant Park!

The cast of West Side Story performs in Bryant Park as part of a six week series presented by 106.7 Lite fm. The series, which just completed its 10th season, was sponsored by Bank of America and JCPenney 33rd & 6th, and was hosted by Lite fm's on-air personalities.

"WEST SIDE STORY" STARS HELP OUT WITH BROADWAY BARKS

Broadway Barks 12 — the annual dog and cat adopt-a-thon created and hosted by pals Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore to find homes for pets from city animal shelters — was held July 10 in Shubert Alley. West Side Story stars George Akram and Karen Olivo were there to lend a hand.

"WEST SIDE STORY" CAST MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN CPR AWARENESS WEEK

Knowing CPR can save a life. It's as simple as that. That's why Latino cast members from Broadway's In the Heights and West Side Story are joining the American Heart Association (AHA) for The Heartbeat of Broadway, a special event to learn the new Hands-Only(TM) CPR. The bilingual training session will take place on stage at the historic Richard Rodgers Theater, 226 W. 46th St, New York City, on Thursday, June 3 at 1:30 pm. The event is part of National CPR Awareness Week (www.CPRWeek.org) and the AHA's challenge to have 1 million people learn about CPR between June 1-7.

The smash hit revival of West Side Story celebrated its first anniversary on Friday, March 19, 2010, at Broadway's Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway) having begun previews Monday, February 23, 2009, and opened Thursday, March 19, 2009.

"West Side Story" National Tour to Launch in October

The touring production of the hit Broadway revival of West Side Story will launch this fall: The North American tour will kick off at The Fisher Theatre in Detroit, MI, in October. Additional cities and venues as well as casting for the tour will be announced at a later date.

"West Side Story" Makes a Dream Come True for One Very Special Fan

From East High School to West Side Story!

The Broadway revival of West Side Story made a dream come true on February 3, when it helped the Make a Wish Foundation celebrate its 8,000th wish granted. Fourteen-year-old Broadway fan and Queens native Elijah’s dream came true when the teen and his family were treated to a matinee performance of the musical at the Palace Theatre.

Olivo and Scaglione Renew "West Side Story" Contracts

Producers of the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of West Side Story had two reasons to celebrate this week. Not only did the production at the Palace Theatre break the theatre's box-office record two weeks in a row, but two of the show's stars have renewed their contracts well into 2010.

The New Yorker's Top Ten Moments in Theatre of 2009

Arthur Laurents's production of West Side Story. Karen Olivo, who played Maria's sparky sidekick, won a Tony for her flamboyant performance. But, for me, the standout, whose spirit gave the musical a new dimension of tragedy, was the charismatic Josefina Scaglione, a sweet-faced, twenty-one-year-old Argentinean who brought a depth of passion, playfulness, and womanliness to Maria. She radiated decency and desire. A star, or I'm a Dutchman.
